Before I move ahead, I wanted to check one thing — would a minimal MVP of a Log-Structured Merge (LSM) Tree–based storage engine (WAL, memtable, SSTables, and basic compaction) be a reasonable and sufficient scope for a Winter of Code 5.0 IIIT Kalyani project under RootSprout?

I want to make sure the scope is realistic and aligned before starting.

You can either contribute to the repos at rootsprout or work on a new project and transfer it to rootsprout, but please let us know the type of the project you will be working on!

That will be amazing✨, but everything should be from first principles and made from scratch, general libraries are fine but don't use too much abstraction 😇.

After you fully completed it.

Make sure it has:

1. Architecture diagrams.
2. Issues for people for further contribution
3. Clear documentation
4. Running steps
5. Must include GitHub actions file.
6. Optional video

Hello mentors,
I am Padmashree, a second year undergrad student. I enjoy understanding systems at low-level with very less abstraction. I found this organization through WOC 5.
I’m interested in working on the Exsh project to deepen my understanding of Operating Systems. However, I’m a bit unclear about how to proceed, especially with respect to the WoC proposal. Since the project description and roadmap are not clearly mentioned and there are very few issues available on GitHub, I’m unsure what scope or problem statements I should focus on in my proposal.

Could you please guide me on:

• what kind of work is expected for Exsh during WoC,
• possible areas/features that need improvement, and
• how I should frame my WoC proposal given the current state of the project?

Currently we don't have any issues related to Exsh shell.

You can create a new feature for the shell by submitting a new issue and working on it.

You can do the following things for new issue,

1. Find a new feature for the shell
2. Extend the functionality of the shell
3. Or just create an issue where you find difficulties in implementing or want to implement so that others can work on it.

For the best, create atleast 5 issues including the ones you will implement and by others.
